Cindy has been involved in education for her entire career. She spent 15 years teaching elementary school and then 12 years as a preschool teacher and director. In 2004, her family began attending Fairhaven, and two years later, when she saw the ad for the position of Director of Early Childhood Ministries, she knew her calling to full time ministry teaching children was being fulfilled. As part of her responsibilities, Cindy writes curriculum, manages other staff members, teaches during weekend services and plans special events for the children and their families. If you or your children have been involved in the Nursery or Preschool Ministries, you can attest to the impact Cindy's heart for teaching children makes on the youngest part of the Fairhaven family.
Cindy and her husband, Rob, have two grown sons and one great daughter-in-law. Away from work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, gardening, shopping and playing with her three kitties: Paprika, DD and Watson. Though many aspects of her ministry are quite rewarding, Cindy especially loves getting hugs from all of her Seedlings and Sprouts.
Why do you work at Fairhaven?
I have felt God’s calling in my life for quite some time to do full time ministry involving teaching and children. After teaching in public school, teaching in a Christian preschool and then directing a Christian preschool, the position as Director of Early Childhood Ministries opened and I knew that my calling was being fulfilled. When Pastor Smith told me that God was reassigning me to this job, it was a really turning point in my life and a very joyous one at that.
Your Faith:
I was very blessed to have been raised in a Christian family, but my real turning point came at a Christian Youth Retreat during junior high school. While listening to speakers and participating in wonderful praise and worship, it soon became apparent that all the head knowledge I had gained from my parents, Sunday School teachers and pastors had a much deeper and more precious part to it. As the Holy Spirit took hold of my heart, I felt a richness and fulfillment that I had never felt before. This heart knowledge was the launching pad of my decision to make teaching my life’s profession. I had always loved being with children, and now I knew that this was part of God’s plan for my life. What could be better than teaching children about how much God loves them? God is so good and wouldn’t you know it, I am here at Fairhaven living out that plan.
Life verse:
“But Jesus said, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14
"You have taught children and nursing infants to give you praise” Psalm 8:2a
