In January of 2007, Pam joined the staff and embraced the opportunity to use her varied background, education, and skills to serve God and His people. Pam previously worked in health care, career consulting, public speaking, and the restaurant business. Her education includes degrees in Psychology, Nursing, and Counselor Education. Pam's responsibilities at Fairhaven are to connect people to the Fairhaven family through service, Bible studies and ministry involvement. In addition, she works at the Welcome Center every weekend and oversees Community Groups, GroupLink, Job Seekers, our bi-monthly First Step event, and is the volunteer coordinator for Alpha.
Combined, Pam and John, her husband of almost 30 years, have three married adult children, five adorable grandsons, and a feisty Min-Pin named "Mitzi." Pam is a breast cancer survivor and the co-founder and coordinator of the Young Widows Support Group that she co- founded in 1990 after the death of her first husband. When not in the office, Pam enjoys photography, spending quality time "camping" with her husband in their air-conditioned trailer, playing with her grandsons, entertaining friends and family.
Why do you work at Fairhaven?
Because I absolutely LOVE my job! This is so much more than a paycheck – as it provides me the awesome opportunity to serve the Lord for eternal purposes in a faith-based organization with tremendous colleagues. Whether I’m connecting someone into a serving opportunity, providing a hug to the discouraged, or helping someone find meaningful employment, it’s all immensely gratifying. I’m still in awe that the Lord provided me this gift!
Your Faith:
Although I attended church on a regular basis as a child and was even baptized in the first grade, I never really understood, nor embraced, a personal relationship with Christ. Consequently, once I left home for college, I stopped attending church. It wasn’t until the death of my first husband (who was killed by a drunk driver), when I was a 31 year old single parent of a young baby, that I earnestly started my quest for spiritually-based answers. Was there a God? If so, why did He allow suffering? What happened to my (late) husband’s soul? Was he in heaven? After 12 years of attending different churches and participating in various Bible Studies, I finally surrendered my “struggle to understand it all” - during a Walk to Emmaus retreat on January 25, 1992.Since that pivotal date, my life has been radically changed and abundantly blessed – and I have a real passion to not only reach unsaved adults for Christ, but also to provide them discipleship opportunities so their new faith can mature. That probably explains why I’m so committed to outreach opportunities like Alpha and Job Seekers, and to providing connecting opportunities within the Body of Christ!
Life Passage:
"How thankful I am to Christ Jesus our Lord for choosing me as one of his messengers, and giving me the strength to be faithful to him, even though I used to scoff at the name of Christ." 1 Timothy 1:12, Living Bible
