Women of Faith - Understanding Purpose

Conference Room 210 – Women's Elective
Kay Clark

We draw strength and courage from knowing that our lives are in God's hands and that He is accomplishing His purposes for us. In this study, we will discover God's vital purpose for us that extends down to the everyday details of our life. Join us Sunday mornings 8:00 am to 9:00 am as we study God's Word together, encourage one another and reflect upon God's great and certain purposes in our lives.

First Service 9:15 am

Objects of the Bible

Schwalm Chapel – Elective
Stephen Julian

Typically we focus on the Bible as a narrative about people and their Creator's commitment to restoration and relationship.  Often we read its stories without paying much attention to the places and objects that give them context.  This course is focused on objects from the scriptures – objects that are central to the stories historically, culturally, and spiritually; objects such as city gates, stone tablets, weaponry, and crowns.  In the process of examining these objects we will learn about the culture and historical context of the stories in which they are found and about the people who used them.  Most importantly we will consider the spiritual lessons taught by our physical world both in biblical times and today.

Second Service 11:00 am

History of Christianity

Schwalm Chapel – Ambassadors: 65+ & Mariners 55+
John Petty

This series will present a broad overview of the story of Christianity with special highlights of key events and persons along the historical narrative.  The typical Christian who sits in a pew on Sunday has little idea of the origins of their denomination, the forms and styles of their worship, and even their theological vocabulary.  This series will expose those origins, helping those who attend to appreciate the great heritage of the Christian faith, the important developments and leaders of each period of church history, and the wide diversity of the Christian faith both historically and globally.  The goal is not merely to know the church's history, but to enable those who attend to determine "where they are" in the Christian tradition and to assess our current needs and trends in light of that history.

Romans

2/28 & 3/7: Rooms 203 & 204, starting March 14: Room 106 & 107 - Young Families

The book of Romans can be a very intimidating book to study as parts of it are just plain hard to understand.  Yet, Romans is a book that is masterfully written, showing proof for the Gospel and addressing problems that the Roman church was dealing with.  The arguments and points are so intricately constructed that it may be easier to understand if we look at it through the lens of a courtroom defense presented by a lawyer.  Come join us as we embark on unpacking this challenging epistle.
