Quotes

"I owe such gratitude to the Job Seekers. All of the practical job search information and the networking opportunities were extremely beneficial throughout my endeavors. However, I am most grateful for the spiritual reminders of God's presence in my daily activities and the friendships that continue to nourish me" ~ Myra Manderfield

"I've never been involved in such an amazing time/meeting as I had this morning at Job Seekers! Wow, I'm still in awe over the presentation, contacts, interactions, organization and whole general warm tone of what I got to experience. What I loved most was hearing the newcomers' 'commercials' and how everyone responded to their needs. What a caring atmosphere! I felt comfortable from the start." ~ Lore Calve

"I would like to thank you again for the fantastic ministry that you provide to people in job transition. With help from Job Seekers and the Lord above I was able to land a job in 8 weeks!" ~ Gary Stoetzer

"I have landed! Personal thanks to the entire team at Fairhaven and Job Seekers for their encouragement and support throughout the past months. Your graciousness of spirit provided a haven for renewal." ~ Deirdre Hughes

"After 13+ months of unemployment, I have finally landed a position as a product manager. I'm very blessed to have been a part of Fairhaven's Job Seekers program and it was a chapter in my life that I'll long remember. There were some days that going to the meeting was my prime driver for getting out of bed and summoning the courage to face another day of unemployment" ~ Rick Papetti

Job Search Suggestions

  1. Apply for unemployment IMMEDIATELY upon losing a job. The weekly subsidy is small, but can keep you afloat until you find a job.
  2. Get your resume professionally done or at least reviewed by a professional. Accomplishments are vital in writing a good resume. Same with a cover letter.
  3. AFTER your resume is complete, Let EVERYONE know you're job searching. And always check out every job tip you get!
  4. Get access to local business publications---Dayton Business Journal, government pubs, newspapers, etc so you can keep track of new businesses coming into the area. These are called Spot Opportunities. Call on them before they post jobs and ask if they could use you in their companies.
  5. Register at Manpower temp agency for temporary jobs. They also offer free computer and business related training at their Dorothy Lane office. Good chance to brush up on computer skills or a new skill.
  6. Check with your alma maters for job placement even if you've been out of college or school for a long period of time.
  7. Watch for job fairs---even if the jobs seem menial, you should take your resume and make contact with the companies who are obviously hiring.
  8. Join or attend professional groups that are connected with your career. It's a great place to network. Make business cards on your computer and pass them out at the meeting.
  9. Network via Facebook and Linkedin. Jobs are listed as well as people who work at various locations that can help you get in the door.
  10. Keep the faith. Tell yourself everyday that there is a better job out there than the one you lost and God has a plan for you. Pray, pray, pray!

These community ministries are fully developed and exist to benefit the Fairhaven family across all our campuses. They are currently being hosted at our Centerville campus. As the Northmont church family grows, opportunities will develop for events being staffed and hosted at our Northmont campus. Until that time, we encourage you to register for these ministries at the Centerville campus office (937-434-8627).
