After I Do: Young Marrieds Ministry

You spent months planning a special wedding day. Shouldn't you put the same thoughtful planning and commitment into creating a marriage that will last? We all head to the altar "head over heels" in love, but when the “daily-ness” sets in, we discover faults we hadn’t noticed, we struggle to make ends meet, and we sometimes feel like our marriage is under attack. What can we do to build into our marriage at the beginning, so that it will last?

“After I Do” is a ministry to engaged, newlywed, and young couples that is creative, relevant, and fun, and accomplishes the core values of Fairhaven Church:

  1. To provide an environment that will allow them to establish meaningful relationships
  2. To challenge them with personal Bible study that is relevant and transformational
  3. To provide opportunities for involvement in serving projects
  4. To encourage them to reach out to other young couples who are outside the faith
  5. To encourage participation in meaningful worship within the church community

“After I Do” offers young couples the opportunity to meet other couples who can offer accountability, community, and a way to connect relationally to the church. We often have guest speakers, media, music, and food as part of our gatherings. Some of the topics we’ve covered are communication (love languages, Lovebusters), conflict resolution (five languages of apology), establishing independence (gaining a healthy distance from parental influence), spirituality in the home, financial foundations, and intimacy.
